Abstract Over 70 pesticides have been detected in ground water. Aldicarb and atrazine along with the soil fumigants EDB and DCP and DBCP have been the pesticides most frequently detected in ground water. Atrazine concentrations have been correlated with high nitrate concentrations. The triazine herbicides, simazine and cyanazine, have also been detected in ground water. A comprehensive review of published information on the distribution and behavior of pesticides and their transformation products in ground water indicates that pesticides from every chemical class have been detected in ground waters of the United States. Many of these compounds are commonly present at low concentrations in ground water beneath agricultural land.

WATER AS PER BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS USING THE AGILENT GC/MS/MS WITH PESTICIDES ANALYZER ABSTRACT An Agilent B GC with C MSD method for the analysis of residual pesticides in drinking water was developed, validated and successfully implemented for routine analysis as per the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Pesticides can reach water-bearing aquifers below ground from applications onto crop fields, seepage of contaminated surface water, accidental spills and leaks, improper disposal, and even through injection waste material into wells. Method Pesticides in Water, Soil, Sediment, Biosolids, and Tissue by HRGC/HRMS Scope and Application Method is for determination of selected organochlorine, organo-phosphorus, triazine, and pyrethroid pesticides in multi-media environmental samples by high resolution gas.

Accurate samples are taken either by depth integration or at a number of points in a transverse cross section. For small. Pesticides released into the environment for agricultural and nonagricultural purposes can contaminate surface water and groundwater, which are critical sources of drinking water.

This map shows the predicted probability that the sum of concentrations of atrazine and its degradate deethylatrazine (DEA) will exceed micrograms per liter (µg.

For the monitoring of ground and surface water, several parameters have been taken into account such as quantities used, water solubility, hydrolysis half-life and soil adsorption coefficient. In surface water, in the USA, the recent National Pesticide Survey (NPS) list includes almost pesticides with many degradation products; in Europe, a.

This volume covers the developments in pesticide usage, with particular emphasis on the regulations that safeguard users, consumers and the environment. It provides a comprehensive guide to the use of pesticides and the efforts of manufacturers to develop pesticides that are both effective and environmentally benign.

As a result, some pesticides are extensively used in these crops like endosulphan, chlorpyrifos, dicofol, dichlorovos, phorate, malathion, triazophos, etc.

Pesticides Found in Surface Waters. Past studies have detected pesticides in surface waters in all regions of the nation. Of the hundreds of pesticide compounds that have been used in the United States, however, only 98 pesticides and 20 pesticide transformation products were included as analytes in the reviewed studies.

This book discusses the results of laboratory and field studies, and well-sampling surveys carried out from the level of individual towns to throughout the USA, and summarizes the current knowledge on physical, chemical and biological phenomena governing sources, transport, distribution and fate of pesticides and their transformation products in the subsurface, with emphasis on groundwater.

Public concern is being increasingly directed to pesticides and their residues in ground and surface waters. Water - one of the necessities of life - has to be kept clean for man and the environment. Part I and II of this book describe in an authoritative way all aspects of modern analysis of pesticides in water by the consequent use of hyphenated techniques like GC-AED or HPLC-MS.

[H J Stan;].Water collecting on the ground, or in a stream, river, lake, sea or ocean, is called surface water. Groundwater is below the soil surface and develops from the seepage or infiltration of water into the ground.

As water moves, both on the surface, and under the ground, suspended or dissolved substances such as pesticides can move with it. Shallow ground water in some of these areas is used for drinking water and ground-water contamination is difficult to reverse once it occurs.

The occurrence of pesticides in streams and ground water does not necessarily cause adverse effects because detections were often at low concentrations.
